This position is a 50% appointment (20 hours per week) Bilingual Community Mentor position as part of the Training and Relationship-Based Professional Development Specialist Support system (TARSS) at the Center for Early Education and Development (CEED) in the Institute of Child Development, part of the College of Education and Human Development. The position will report to the TARSS Project Manager.
The Spanish/English Bilingual Community Mentor will work closely with the TARSS Team to develop culturally-aware and culturally-responsive professional development opportunities and materials that meet the diverse needs of child care professionals throughout Minnesota. The Community Mentor also provides exceptional customer service to Trainers and RBPD specialists throughout Minnesota, via phone, email, and in-person events. The Community Mentor acts as a cultural broker, building bridges of understanding between bilingual Trainers, RBPD Specialists, and the training system while simultaneously collecting feedback from the field that can influence evaluation and decision making. Community Mentors support Trainers in the field through the mentoring process designed by the TARSS program. This includes meetings with trainers, observations of training, and other support as needed for each unique trainer. They will advise on which materials need to be translated and how/if said documents need to be adjusted to enhance cultural integration. The Bilingual Community Mentor demonstrates exceptional knowledge of adult learning and a deep connection to the cultural community. This position is an integral part of the TARSS team, offering critical feedback across different initiatives, which ensures that diverse voices are integrated, and inequities are identified within the decision-making processes. Community Mentors also assist with other projects as needed.
